The Amalgam

There was something inside that scrapheap, not quite alive, and not quite dead. With a mind racing with not-so-artificial thoughts. A machine with a singular purpose: to fix that which is broken.The Collectors of the village called it The Amalgam.

    The village residents derived their name from the compulsion to collect useful objects to assist The Amalgam in repairs, pulling all manner of miscellania from that endless junkyard.

    To the North there was a great cathedral, of wire and metal made. To the West, the now ancient wreckage of a vast metal ship, fallen from the stars. To the South, a landscape of low rolling hills, composed of a kind of crumbling metal mulch and the dust of powdered rust. In the East, the endless scrapheap hills to which the Collectors were accustomed. The hills were punctuated with tall steel towers which could serve as beacons to any who were lost.
